After Germanwings crash, crew members declare unfit to fly
Frankfurt, Mar 25 (IBNS): After the tragic crash of its Airbus A320 in the French Alps between Barcelonnette and Digne on Tuesday with 150 people on board, Lufthansa's Germanwings airliner has announced that crew members have declared themselves unfit to fly resulting in the disruptions of several flights.
"Following the tragic accident on Tuesday, Germanwings reports occasional flight disruptions within its route network. This is due to crew members, who decided not to operate aircraft today following the reports on the accident of a Germanwings aircraft with 144 passengers and six crew members onboard," the airliner said in a statement.
“We understand their decision," stated Thomas Winkelmann, Management Spokesperson of Germanwings.
Some flights had to be cancelled following this.
This comes after the flight, which belongs to Germanwings and carrying 144 passengers and six crew members, crashed in the French Alps between Barcelonnette and Digne on Tuesday killing all people on board.
"French transport officials said there were no survivors," France24.com had reported.
Meanwhile, conforming the mishap, the airline had said in its website: "We must confirm to our deepest regret that Germanwings Flight 4U 9525 from Barcelona to Düsseldorf has suffered an accident over the French Alps. The flight was being operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft, and was carrying 144 passengers and six crew members."
"Lufthansa and Germanwings have established a telephone hotline. The toll-free 0800 11 33 55 77 number is available to all the families of the passengers involved for care and assistance. Everyone at Germanwings and Lufthansa is deeply shocked and saddened by these events. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the passengers and crew members," it had said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel had said it was an hour for all to 'feel deep sorrow'.
