Auckland terror attack injured 7 people: New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern
Auckland/UNI/Sputnik/IBNS: New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Saturday said the terrorist attack, which took place at a supermarket here, left seven people injured.
Among the injured, three are in critical condition.
Ardern said in a press conference, "We are aware now that there were a total of seven people injured yesterday. There are five people in hospital, three are in a critical condition."
The incident, where a man went into the supermarket and stabbed six people (as per initial reports), was termed by Ardern as a terrorist attack Friday.
She said the incident occurred at around 2:40 pm and the stabber was shot dead within a minute since the attack took place.
The Prime Minister described the attacker as a "supporter of IS-ideology", who reportedly arrived in New Zealand in 2011 and had roots in Sri Lanka.
"He was a supporter of IS-ideology. He was known to multiple agencies. I was personally aware of him," she said Friday.
