Second round of talks between Russia, Ukraine tomorrow as deadly shelling ravages Kharkiv

New Delhi/IBNS: A second round of talks will take place between Russia and Ukraine on Wednesday, two days after the first meeting of negotiations yielded no resolution.

As the war raged into the sixth day, Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, an Indian student from Karnataka, was killed in shelling in Kharkiv when he stepped out of the safety of a metro station to buy food in the war zone in eastern Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, Ukraine President Voldomyr Zelensky said that his country has proved it is strong and urged the European Union to prove their support to the war-torn nation.

Addressing a special session of the European Parliament, on a day when at least 10 people were killed in a missile strike on the central square of Kharkiv, on the sixth day of invasion by Russia, Zelensky sought the support that will let life conquer death.

"I cannot say good morning or good day, because every day for somebody this is not a good day," Zelensky began to a huge round of applause by member nation representative, who watched him on a huge screen.

"We have united all Europe but I did not want to be united at this cost. This is a tragedy for all of us. We had five days of full-scale invasion," he said.

"We are fighting for our land and our freedom. Nobody shall occupy our country," he said. "We have proved we are strong. Europe, please prove you are together with us, prove you will not repel us. Please prove you are real Europeans, then life will concur death," he added.

Tuesday is the sixth day of the Russian attack on Ukraine, as satellite links showed columns of Russian forces advancing towards the country. Bombings and shellings have ravaged all parts of the country.

More than 70 Ukrainian servicemen were killed by a Russian rocket attack and dozens of civilians have died in the shelling.

According to Kyiv authorities, 352 civilians have been killed, including 14 children, since the invasion began last Thursday.

Russia too acknowledged for the first time that it has suffered losses.

More than half a million people have fled Ukraine since the start of Russia's invasion, reports said.

The latest satellite images showed a 64-kilometres long convoy of the Russian army marching north of Ukraine's capital Kyiv.

Ukrainian and Russian officials held the first round of talks for five hours on Monday and both the countries had then agreed to hold a new round of negotiations on the Belarusian-Polish border in the next few days, head of the Russian delegation, presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, had said.

Medinsky had said the two sides “discussed in detail all the items on the agenda and found some common points on which we predict common positions can be found.”

"The most important thing is that [we] have agreed to continue the negotiation process, and the next meeting will take place in the next few days on the Polish-Belarusian border. There is such an agreement," Medinsky told reporters following the hour-long talks.
