California/UNI: Online video-sharing platform YouTube on Saturday blocked Duma TV broadcasts from the Russian parliament's lower house, drawing ire of the Russian officials.
Daily Express quoted YouTube as saying that the Duma TV channel had been "terminated for a violation of YouTube's terms of service".
Following the announcement, Vyacheslav Volodin, Head of the Duma, accused Washington of breaching "the rights of Russians" while foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said "YouTube has sealed its fate," BBC reported.
"The US wants to have a monopoly on the diffusion of information," Volodin said on Telegram, adding that "We cannot allow that".
According to Moscow, Duma TV has over 145,000 subscribers broadcasting parliamentary debates and interviews with Russian lawmakers.
On Thursday, Russia's state communications watchdog said it would ban the US internet giant Google from advertising its services in the country as YouTube was spreading "fake news" about Russia's military campaign in Ukraine.
