Britain PM Boris Johnson faces no-confidence vote over 'Partygate' scandal

London/IBNS: Conservative MPs in Britain began casting their ballots in a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Boris Johnson, which can lead to his immediate removal as party leader and signal the end of his term in government.

The no-confidence vote is underway in connection with Johnson's 'Partygate' scandal.

Johnson will require a majority of his 359 Tory MPs to back him to remain in office,

A result is expected around an hour after voting ends.

British lawmakers had earlier initiated a probe into allegations that Johnson had misled the Parliament with his initial response to the charges that he and his staff broke COVID-19 lockdown rules by attending a party.

Johnson had earlier apologized for attending a Downing Street garden party in London during the country's first lockdown in 2020.

He had also paid a fine for breaking COVID-19 lockdown rules.
