Rishi Sunak vs Liz Truss for British PM: Voting ends, result tomorrow
London/IBNS: Voting to replace Boris Johnson as the Conservative Party leader and the British Prime Minister closed on Friday evening.
Tory members have registered their vote to seal the fate of Indian-origin former Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.
Rishi Sunak, 42, and Liz Truss, 47, have gone head-to-head after several rounds of voting in the UK over the past month.
With the ballots now closed, the result will be declared at 12.30 pm local time on Monday.
Rishi Sunak was elected as Conservative MP for Richmond (Yorks) in 2015, which marked his entry into politics.
The 42-year-old Indian-origin leader got a full cabinet role for the first time when he was picked up by Boris Johnson as Chancellor of the Exchequer in February 2020.
Sunak was also fined for defying Covid-19 lockdown protocols and attending a 10, Downing Street gathering.
Liz Truss is a British politician serving as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs since 2021 and Minister for Women and Equalities since 2019.
A member of the Conservative Party, she has been Member of Parliament (MP) for South West Norfolk since 2010 and has served in various Cabinet positions under Prime Ministers David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson.
