Sydney: A flight, which was travelling from New Zealand's Auckland to Sydney in Australia, landed safely after reporting mid-air engine trouble and issuing a mayday call, media reports said.

Flight QF144 from Auckland, a twin-jet Boeing 737-838, landed at Sydney Airport just before 3.30pm on Wednesday, according to FlightRadar as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Aircrew issued a mayday alert about 45 minutes before landing, the newspaper reported.

A Sydney Airport spokesperson told The Sydney Morning Herald that the airport notified Fire and Rescue, NSW Police and NSW Ambulance as a precautionary measure but could not comment on the specifics of the mayday alert.

According to reports, other flight services in the airport are not likely to be impacted by the incident.

What is Mayday?

Mayday is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in voice-procedure radio communications, as per Wikipedia.
