Ukrainian President denies Russian allegations of assassination attempt on Putin

Helsinki/Finland: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday refuted Moscow's allegation of Ukraine's involvement in a plot to assassinate Russian leader Vladimir Putin following Russia's claim that two drones were downed near the Kremlin.

"We didn't attack Putin. We fight on our territory, we are defending our villages and cities," Zelensky told reporters at a press conference with Nordic leaders in Helsinki, reported AFP.

"We don't attack Putin or Moscow. We don't have enough weapons for this," the Ukrainian President stated. 

Russia claimed on Wednesday to have intercepted and destroyed two drones that were allegedly targeting President Putin's Kremlin residence, labeling it as a "terrorist" assassination attempt by Ukraine.

"The devices were put out of action," a Kremlin statement stated.

During a recent incident where Moscow claimed that Putin was unharmed and there were no casualties.

Ukrainian President Zelensky questioned Moscow's decision to accuse Kyiv, stating that "Russia has no victories."

According to Zelensky, Putin is no longer able to motivate his society and military to fight for a cause that he cannot justify.

Zelensky also reiterated Ukraine's desire to join NATO and received support from the Nordic NATO members who declared their intention to continue supporting Ukraine's path towards future membership.

Zelensky believes that Ukraine is already a de facto member of NATO, and both parties are working together for the sake of common defense.
