London, Jan 29 (IBNS) A Los Angeles bound American Airlines Boeing 777 returned back to the Heathrow Airport just a couple of hours after it took off, owing to several passengers mysteriously falling ill, according to reports.

The Telegraph reported that the plane was flying atop Iceland's Keflavik when the decision to divert the plane back to London was taken.

Alan Gray, a passenger was quoted by Mail Online as saying, "It was at that point the captain said he was turning the plane around. He said he wasn't willing to take the risk to keep going and hadn't got the crew to do it."

He further said, "When we landed there were police cars, ambulances and firefighters who escorted us down the runway and then we were held for 45 minutes before docking."

“Eventually, when we did dock, there was only one person who came on and he was monitoring the air.”

The Telegraph quoted an American Airlines spokesperson as saying that the decision to return to London was taken by the cabin crew.

It also said that the passengers were evacuated by paramedics and that no extra medical help was required.

The luggage of passengers which was taken for inspection was also returned afterwards.

American Airlines also said that the aircraft was now inspected by engineers.

The illness is believed to have occurred from cabin pressure.
