Police arrest man resembling Pakistan minor rape-murder suspect
Kasur, Jan 16 (IBNS): Police have arrested a person, who resembles the Kasur minor rape and murder suspect, media reports said on Tuesday.
The arrested man reportedly resembled the suspect who was seen in the CCTV footage with Zainab.
Police have arrested a man resembling the suspect seen in the CCTV footage with Zainab, the seven-year-old girl who was brutally raped and murdered in Kasur last week, sources told Geo News on Monday.
Sources, however, told Geo News that the DNA of the arrested man does not match with samples found from the victim's body.
According to sources, police have cast doubts over the statement recorded by the arrested man and will now carry out a polygraph test to ascertain veracity of his statement, the news channel further reported.
Body of the minor was found in a trash pile on Jan 9.
The police had earlier released a CCTV footage showing the suspected person in the rape and murder of minor girl Zainab in Kasur area of Pakistan, media reports said.
The minor is suspected to have been abducted after she left her house in Road Kot area to visit her maternal aunt’s residence located a few minutes away for religious lessons on Jan 4.
Her body was discovered from a trash pile on Jan 9.
As per Dawn News report, in the footage, a bearded man bearing a resemblance to her abductor can be seen walking through the street where Zainab's house is situated. The man is seen wearing a dark coloured cap, what seems to be grey shalwar kameez and a brown jacket.
The police , however, had clarified and said that the person, who could be seen in the footage is just a 'person of interest'.
Kasur witnessed protest after body of Zainab was found in a garbage heap.
Politicians from different political parties have condemned the incident.
