Karachi, Feb 2 (IBNS): Former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif on Friday said the future of democracy in Pakistan remained unceratin.

He was addressing a  seminar in Karachi city when he made the remarks.

"Every time democracy tried to stand on its feet, it was struck down,"  Sharif was quoted as saying in the seminar by Dawn News.

"That pollution, which over the past 70 years has prevented the democratic system from reaching a point of stability, persists in the air around us today," he said.

Sharif recalled the time in 1953 when  Khawaja Nazimuddin was forced to quit as prime minister of the country.

Referring to the incident, he said: " Since then, prime ministers have been treated like toys ."

He said: "It is even more unfortunate that whenever democracy has come under attack, some sections of the judiciary — instead of standing with the people, the Constitution and democratic rule — have supported dictators."
