Pakistan: Court gives death sentence to Zainab's killer

Islamabad, Feb 17 (IBNS): In a major development,  an anti-terrorism court (ATC), which was hearing the rape and murder case of seven-year-old Zainab, gave death sentence to  Imran Ali Naqshbandi  in its verdict on Saturday, media reports said.

The court sentenced Imran to death for kidnapping, for rape, for murder and under Section 7-ATA. Additionally, for performing an unnatural act with a minor he has been sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 million and for desecrating human remains by dumping Zainab's body in the garbage he was sentenced to 7 years, Punjab Prosecutor General Ehtesham Qadir was quoted as saying by Geo News.

In this crucial case that had stirred a protest in Pakistan, saw the defence and prosecution  concluding their arguments recently.

A total of 56 witnesses including Zainab’s uncle and brother recorded their statements against Imran. The prosecutor informed the court that the forensic report and polygraph test proved that Imran murdered Zainab, reported Geo News.

Zainab Amin was kidnapped on Jan 4.

Her body was found in a garbage bin on Jan 9.

The rape and murder of Zainab left people shocked across Pakistan.

Protests hit Kasur later, demanding arrest of culprits.
