Bidya Devi Bhandari takes oath as Nepal President for second term

Beijing, Mar 14 (IBNS):  Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday took oath as the President of Nepal for second term.

The first female President of the nation has been administered the oath of office and secrecy by country's Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli, local media reports said.

Bidya Devi Bhandari was re-elected as the President of Nepal for a second term on Tuesday.

Bhandari won the presidential election with an overwhelming majority.

The Left alliance candidate won the vote with more than a two-thirds majority.

Bhandari defeated her Nepali Congress (NC) rival Kumari Laxmi Rai.

President Bhandari received 39,275 votes, while NC lawmaker Rai received 11,730 votes. President Bhandari has won by 27,545 votes. Vote-weightage of each voter of the House of Representatives and National Assembly was 79, while that of each Provincial Assembly member was equivalent to 48, The Himalayan Times reported.

Voting for the poll started at 10 am and continued till 3 pm.

Counting of votes started at 4 pm.
