Suspected suicide blast in Pakistan kills 9

Lahore, Mar 15 (IBNS): A suspected suicide blast in Raiwind area of Pakistan left at least nine people killed, media reports said on Thursday.

The incident occurred at the outskirts of Lahore.

The deceased included five policemen and four civilians.

According to reports, the incident left 25 people injured.

Senior police official, Deputy Inspector General Operations Dr. Haider Ashraf, told Geo News that  police personnel appeared to be the target of the attack as the explosion took place close to a police check-post and near the vehicle of a deputy superintendent.

DIG Ashraf told the news channel that the explosion occurred when the police were changing guards at the checkpoint.

A motorcycle, which was located close to the site of the mishap, has been destroyed.

Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the incident.

He tweeted: "Brave police officials lay down their lives in the line of duty. The nation is proud of sacrifices that the Punjab police, security officials & our citizens have rendered in the war on terrorism. Prayers for the departed souls & bereaved families who lost their loved ones!"

The official Twitter page of the Government of Punjab said :" Chief Minister Punjab has expressed grief and and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the Raiwind blast. The Chief Minister has extended condolences to the bereaved families."
