Afghanistan: Imam blown up by own bomb in Ghor

Kabul, May 2 (IBNS):  A prayer leader of a mosque was killed when the landmine he was planting in  Ghor province of Afghanistan went off, media reports said on Wednesday.

The imam was identified as Mualvi Abdul Qader.

Police spokesman Mohammad Iqbal Nizami told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mualvi Abdul Qader, a resident of Kashkar area, wanted to plant the roadside bomb in Ghaibi area of Ferozkoh city.

He was reportedly leading prayers at a mosque for three years.

Afghanistan has witnessed several suicide attacks and terrorism-related activities for the past few months.

Terror-hit Monday:

Two blasts rocked Kabul city on Monday, leaving the nation shocked.

According to reports, at least 14 civilians were killed and over 30 injured in two attacks that took place on Monday morning (local time) in a heavily populated neighbourhood in central Kabul.

The second attack was timed 30 minutes later to target journalists arriving on the scene and emergency services personnel seeking to provide aid to victims of the first attack.

In another incident, at least 11 civilians were killed in a blast that rocked Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Monday, media reports said.
