Afghan security forces conduct operation, kill 22 armed Taliban militants
Kabul Jun 2 (IBNS): At least 22 armed militants affiliated with the Taliban have been killed in anti-terrorism operations conducted by security forces in Afghanistan, reports said.
The operations were launched in various parts of the country and went on for a period of 24 hours.
According to the country's defence ministry, at least eight militants, including their local commander Noor Gul, were killed in an air strike in Posht Rod district of Farah province.
In a separate airstrike, at least five militants were gunned down in Nangarhar’s Ghani Khail district.
Five other militants were killed in Baraki Barak district of Logar province, the ministry said on Saturday.
Among the deceased was a local commander, identified as Mavlawi Sardar a.k.a Mesbah.
A vehicle belonging to the militants was also destroyed during the raid.
The remaining four insurgents were killed in Khoja Ghar district of Takhar province.
The raid also injured five militants, while four others were arrested by security personnel.
The Taliban has not yet commented on the report.
