Doctor who examined Nawaz Sharif in prison suffers heart attack
Islamabad, July 30 (IBNS): The doctor, who had examined jailed ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif in Adiala jail, has suffered heart attack, media reports said on Monday.
Dr Ejaz Qadeer of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was the head of the five-member medical team that examined Sharif in Adiala jail.
He reportedly suffered the heart attack on Sunday.
He is currently under treatment at the hospital’s Cardiac Centre, sources within PIMS told Geo News.
The sources informed the Pakistan-based news channel that Dr Qadeer is a cardiac patient and has suffered a heart attack before as well.
Meanwhile, following the order of the caretaker government, jailed Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted from Adiala Jail to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital's cardiac ward on Sunday, media reports said.
Upon the ex-prime minister's complaint of chest pain, doctors carried out a check-up and advised that he be shifted to a coronary care unit (CCU) immediately, sources told Geo News, following which the jail superintendent contacted the additional chief secretary.
"In light of the additional chief secretary's report, the caretaker government has decided to shift Nawaz [Sharif] to PIMS," sources in the Interior Ministry told Geo News.
Amid tight security, Nawaz Sharif was shifted to the hospital.
According to reports, the cardiac ward of the hospital has been declared a sub-jail as Nawaz Sharif is currently admitted there for treatment.
Nawaz Sharif jailed:
In a major blow to Nawaz Sharif ahead of the general elections, a Pakistani court on July 6 handed over the former Prime Minister of the country 10 years jail term over his family’s purchase of upscale London flats.
Sharif was awarded ten years of jail and fined eight million pounds by the Pakistani court.
Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam, who is also a prominent political figure in Pakistan, was also sentenced to eight years in jail and fined two million pounds by the court.
They were arrested on July 13 after they reached Pakistan from London.
Marym is currently lodged in Adiala jail in Pakistan.
