London, Sept 11 (IBNS): Ex-Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif's wife Begum Kulsoom passed away in London on Tuesday.

She was undergoing treatment in the city for several months now.

The official Twitter page of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President tweeted: "My sister-in-law and Mr. Mian Nawaz Sharif's wife, Begum kalsum Nawaz, now we are not in, may their God forgiveness."

Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam are currently lodged in a Pakistani jail.

Sources at Adiala Jail told Geo News that the former premier and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, have been informed about Begum Kulsoom's passing.

Sources told the Pakistani news channel that the Sharif family has decided to bring back Begum Kulsoom's body to Pakistan.

"She will be laid to rest in Pakistan," the family confirmed.

Begum Kulsoom was diagnosed with cancer last year.

According to reports, Pakistan's current PM Imran Khan has expressed his grief over the death of Begum Kulsoom.

Nawaz, Maryam in jail:

Begum passed away at a time when Nawaz Sharif and Maryam are currently in prison.

In a major blow to Nawaz Sharif ahead of the general elections, a Pakistani court on July 6 handed over the former Prime Minister of the country 10 years jail term over his family’s purchase of upscale London flats.

Sharif was awarded ten years of jail and fined eight million pounds by the Pakistani court.

Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam, who is also a prominent political figure in Pakistan,  was also sentenced to eight years in jail and fined two million pounds by the court.

They were arrested on July 13 after they reached Pakistan from London.
