Kathmandu, Nov 28 (IBNS): An American climber died  on Mt Ama Dablam in Nepal on Wednesday, media reports said.

The mishap occurred in the nation at a time when the  autumn climbing season is coming to an end.

According to the expedition organiser, Steven Biem, 47, breathed his last while descending the 6,812 metre-peak, The Himalayan Times reported.

Steve along with other team members made it to the summit of Mt Ama Dablam yesterday afternoon, the newspaper reported.

Steve was a member of the expedition led by British mountaineer Tim Mosedale, sources at the Ama Dablam Base Camp told the newspaper.

His death was attributed to high-altitude pulmonary edema, sources claimed.

Efforts were underway to airlift his body to Kathmandu by conducting a long-line operation from Lukla, sources told the newspaper.
