Nepal bans use of high-value Indian currency notes

| @indiablooms | 14 Dec 2018, 04:54 pm

Kathmandu, Dec 14 (IBNS): Nepal has banned the use of Indian currency notes higher than 100 denomination.

The government has asked its citizens to not keep higher denomination notes because Nepal has not legalised Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 Indian Rupee notes, information and communications minister Gokul Prasad Baskota said, The Kathmandu Post reported.

Indian currency notes are commonly used in Nepal by individuals and business establishments.

The latest decision will hit Indian tourists to Nepal and Nepalese workers in India.

The 2016 demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 Indian currency notes adversely affected Nepal and large amount of the useless notes were stuck in the country. The Nepal government had said it would take up the matter with India.
