Bangladesh: Pakistan government condoles loss of lives in fire
Islamabad, Feb 22 (IBNS): Pakistan on Friday condoled the loss of lives in a fire tragedy in Bangladesh capital Dhaka which left 70 people dead.
"The Government and People of Pakistan express deep condolences on the recent blaze in a factory which led to the tragic loss of precious lives and injured scores of others. We express deep sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims and wish speedy recovery of those injured in the incident," Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
A case for causing death by negligence has been filed by Bangladeshi officials over the incident.
A relative of Arafat Islam Siyam, a 19-year-old who burnt to death, filed the case with the Chawkbazar Police Station on Friday, reported Bangladeshi news portal bdnews24.
The case filed under the Penal Code accuses the two sons of Hazi Abdul Wahed, who owned one of the five buildings damaged by the fire, and 10-12 unnamed individuals, said Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, Lalbagh Deputy Commissioner of police, the news portal reported.
37 fire tenders took around 14 hours and even water was sprinkled from above by using helicopters to bring the flames under control.
The bodies were sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Several bodies were even handed over later to the relatives of the deceased families.
