Sri Lanka to hold emergency meeting after explosions: Minister

Colombo, Apr 21 (UNI ) The Sri Lankan government headed by the country's Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will hold an emergency meeting after multiple explosions that hit Sri Lanka's churches and hotels on the Easter day killing around 140 and injuring more than 400.

 Sri Lankan Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution Harsha De Silva said, adding that there are foreign citizens among those killed in the blasts.

A total of six blasts reportedly took place on Sunday in Sri Lanka, hitting three churches and three hotels in the country's capital of Colombo and other cities.

At least 140 people have been killed and nearly 300 others wounded in multiple explosions. The blasts hit three high-end hotels and one church in Colombo, while two additional churches were targeted outside the capital. One of the blasts hit St Anthony's Church in Kochchikade of the capital.

"Sec Defence and I am at Kochchikade church. Also was at ShangriLa n Kingsbury. PM is on his way from Bentota. Emergency meeting called in a few minutes. Rescue operations underway," De Silva tweeted.

The minister also noted that there were foreigners among victims of the explosions.
