Dhaka, Sept 8 (IBNS): At least 18 people were injured as a gas cylinder exploded at a hotel in Board Bazar area of Bangladesh's Gazipur area on Sunday, media reports said.

The explosion rocked the ground floor of a four-storied building at around 2.30 am. The hotel was situated in that store of the building.

Among the injured, 13 were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment and the remaining were provided first-aid at Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College and Hospital, Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Mamun told Dhaka Tribune.

Being informed of the blast, three units of Tongi Fire Service arrived at the scene. However, before their arrival, locals rescued the injured and took them to the hospital, reported the newspaper.

Mamun told the newspaper that the explosion destroyed parts of the Banglar Radhuni Hotel and its adjoining Tripti Hotel, injuring at least 17 people at the restaurants. The nearby IFIC Bank suffered the most damage from the blast.

The reason for the explosion is still not clear.
