Dhaka/IBNS: At least 20 people were hurt when eight bogies of Rangpur Express train derailed and two bogies caught fire in Bangladesh's Sirajganj area on Thursday, media reports said on Friday.
The accident occurred just after the Rangpur-bound train, coming from Dhaka, left the platform of the Ullapara rail station around 1:30pm Thursday, assistant Station Master of Ullapara rail station Rafiqul Islam told Dhaka Tribune.
"After receiving the clearance from the lineman, the train left for Rangpur on the Sirajganj-Ishwardi track. However, as soon as it left Ullapara rail station, the locomotive suddenly lifted from the ground, causing eight bogies to derail," Rafiqul told the newspaper.
No casualty has been reported.
Following the mishap, rail communication between West Bengal and Dhaka has become temporarily suspended.
The injured people received treatment at local hospitals.
A probe committee, consisting of five members under Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) Abdullah Al Mamun, has been created to investigate, and then submit a report upon the incident, reporetd Dhaka Tribune.
