Bangladesh Hindu priest killing: Four convicts get death penalty
Dhaka/IBNS: A Bangladesh court has awarded death sentences to four Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) members in connection with the murder of a Hindu priest in the country's Panchagarh area in 2016, media reports said.
The Hindu priest was identified as Jagneshwar Roy. He was the head priest of Santo Gaurio Temple at Sonapota village in the northern district’s Debiganj Upazila.
Rajshahi's Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Anup Kumar passed the verdict on Sunday, reported bdnews24.
The convicts in the case have been identified as Jahangir Hossain alias Rajib, 30, Rajibul Islam Molla, Alamgir Hossain, 35, and Ramzan Ali, 22.
Rajibul is absconding.
In 2016, Roy was killed as attackers slit his throat after hacking him with sharp weapons.
His follower Gopal Chandra Roy was wounded in the incident. He was reportedly shot by the attackers.
