Islamabad/IBNS: A Chinese national has gone missing from the Defence area in Pakistan's Karachi city, media reports said.

Police suspect that the Chinese trader may have been abducted.

The Gizri police station had lodged an FIR on the complaint of a colleague of the missing trader under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Pakistan Penal Code, reported Dawn News.

The complainant stated in his police statement that the trader left his residence in DHA’s Phase VII at 7pm on April 20 telling him that that he was going to a dinner with some Chinese friends, reported the newspaper.

The complainant said that after a while he tried to contact him over the phone but could not get any reply. He then approached the person who rented the car to the victim and with his help the vehicle was traced and found abandoned on Khayaban-i-Ittehad at 12.30am, reported Dawn News.

The mobile phone of the trader was also found in the car.

The 39-year-old Chinese national had come to Pakistan on Feb 25 for “some business purpose”, reported Dawn News.

DIG-South Sharjeel Kharal confirmed to the newspaper that the Chinese trader was not working on any project related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

“We are probing the kidnapping incident from different angles,” he said, adding that so far no ransom call had been received.

An investigation team led by DSP Raja Tariq had been formed to recover the Chinese national and to trace those behind the incident.
