Dhaka/UNI: Two suspected Rohingya drug traders were killed in a gunfight with Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) in Nanirbari area of Abrang village under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Monday, BGB said.

Two BGB men were also injured in the gunfight.

The deceased were identified as Alam, 26, and Md Yeasin, 24. The BGB-2 Battalion Commander Lt Col Mohammad Foisal Hasan Khan confirmed the matter.

On a tip-off, he said, a team of BGB men conducted the drive in the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight that left the duo injured.

They were taken to Teknaf Health Complex where duty doctors referred them to Sadar Hospital. However, they declared dead at the district hospital.

BGB also recovered 50,000 Yaba tablets, one China-made pistol and two bullets from the spot, he said.
