Islamabad: Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued an arrest warrant against the country's former president Asif Ali Zardari over Rs 8 billion suspicious transaction in the fake accounts case, media reports said.

The warrant was signed by Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.

Meanwhile, a two-member bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC), headed by Justice Aamer Farooq, would hear Zardari’s interim-bail plea. The court had sought arguments from Zardari's lawyer and NAB, reports The News International.

An accountability court indicted Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and other accused in September in the mega-money laundering reference, the newspaper reported.

The arrest warrant was issued to the former President amid Pakistan PM Imran Khan-led government's crackdown on opposition parties.

In a bid to oust the government, the opposition leaders united to form an alliance named Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) recently.
