“The program undertaken to observe Mujib Borsho could not be executed properly and timely due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. So, the government is declaring Mujib Borsho’s duration from March 17, 2020 to December 16, 2021,” the gazette reads as quoted by Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier, the Bangladesh government announced several programmes to mark the ocassion starting from Mar 17 to Mar 26 next year.

The countdown for the celebration’s opening had started on January 10, coinciding with Bangabandhu’s homecoming in 1972 from a Pakistan jail after the 1971 Liberation War, reports Dhaka Tribune.
