Pakistan: PDM holds a rally to observe Benazir Bhutto's death anniversary
Islamabad/UNI: Larkana city of Sindh hosted a rally by the 11-party opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on the occasion of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto's 13th death anniversary.
Larkana houses the mausoleum where Benazir is buried next to her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
In an apparent reference to the Pakistani military Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) leader Awais Noorani while addressing the rally said the PDM wanted that all institutions should function within their limits.
"We don't want to fight anyone. Stay within your limits and let people make their decisions," he said, adding that the PDM wanted free and fair elections.
JUI-F's Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri hit out at the government claiming that it is mismanaging the economy and indulging in character assassination of opposition leaders.
"We have never seen cowardly leaders like them. They don't have a majority in Pakistan [and] they have brought the country to the brink of destruction. Due to their policies investors are running away," he said.
He vowed that the PDM will not rest until "sending this puppet, showpiece, inept, selected government home".
PML-N Vice president Maryam Nawaz paid rich tributes to Benazir Bhutto.
Speaking to reporters, she said, "She(Benazir Bhutto) gave her life bravely for this country. It is an honour for me to attend her anniversary."
Benazir Bhutto was assassinated through a suicide bombing on December 27, 2007 at Rawalpindi.
