Pakistan CPI Pakistan drops four places in Corruption Perceptions Index
Pakistan has dropped four spots to stand at 124th position amid 180 nations in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) list released by the Transparency International.
New Zealand and Denmark topped the chart.
Syria, Somalia and South Sudan remained at the bottom of the list.
India ranked better than Pakistan in the 86th position.
Last year, Pakistan had ranked 120. On a scale of 0-100, with zero being 'Highly Corrupt' and 100 being 'Very Clean', the country's corruption score stands at 31 — a point lower than last year's 32 — indicating that the perception of corruption in the public sector has worsened slightly, reports Dawn News.
The index, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople, uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean, read the Transparency International website.
Like previous years, more than two-thirds of countries score below 50 on this year’s CPI, with an average score of just 43. The data shows that despite some progress, most countries still fail to tackle corruption effectively, it said.
