Pakistan: Police, govt employees clash in Islamabad over pay rise issue
Islamabad: Pakistan's Islamabad city witnessed unruly scenes as the federal government employees and security personnel clashed throughout the day in the heavily-guarded area recently, media reports said.
The protesters are demanding an increase in their salaries in accordance with the prevailing inflation, reports Dawn News.
The demonstrators were protesting under the umbrella of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance.
On the other hand, the officials of the capital administration and police told Dawn on condition of anonymity that detention orders of union leaders of different government departments had been issued under Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance 1960 to counter the sit-in.
Meanwhile, some media reports claimed Prime Minister Imran Khan's government has approved an increase in the salaries of government employees.
Sources told Geo News a government negotiating team comprising Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan called on the premier Thursday.
