A school building, constructed with Indian grants in Gorkha district of Nepal, has been inaugurated jointly by officials from the Indian embassy and Nepal’s district development authority.

During the ceremony, the Head of Administration at the Indian Embassy, Karun Bansal, representatives from the District Coordination Committee at Gorkha, the School Management Committee, and other local representatives, were present.

A statement released by the Indian embassy in Kathmandu said the school building, constructed under the Nepal-Bharat Development Cooperation, cost $383,000. The project is one of the several High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) that India undertakes in its neighborhood.

"India has taken up over 520 HICDPs in Nepal and has completed 446 projects, of which 50 are in Province 4 including 7 in Gorkha District, among others. Likewise, the Embassy of India has gifted 12 ambulances to various health posts and NGOs in Gorkha District,” the statement released on the embassy website reads.

The school, established in 1960, was upgraded subsequently in 2010 to Secondary School, according to a report in The Himalayan Times. Currently, a total of 250 students. 60 percent among them are girls, are enrolled in the school.
