COVID-19: First commercial shipment of 1 million Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine from China reaches Bangladesh
Dhaka: The first commercial shipment of 1 million Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine from China has reached Bangladesh, a nation battling a deadly wave of the COVID-19 pandemic at present.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines jet carrying the vaccines touched down at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after Friday midnight, Maidul Islam, a health ministry spokesman, told bdnews24.
He added 1 million more Siopharm doses will arrive in the country on Saturday morning.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen arrived in the airport when the doses arrive.
Earlier, China had sent 1.1 million doses of the vaccine to Bangladesh as a gesture of goodwill, reports bdnews24.
However the current shipment is part of the government’s agreement with China.
