Taliban fires at Afghan Independence Day rally, several dead
Asadabad/IBNS: Several people were killed Thursday in the Asadabad city of Afghanistan after insurgent group Taliban fired at people, who were waiving the national flag at an Independence Day rally, media reports said.
In the rally, people were protesting against the insurgents by waiving the national flag and in some cases tearing down Taliban's white flags.
According to a report by NDTV, it is still unclear whether people were killed due to the firing or the stampede triggered by it.
Notably, three people were killed a day ago in similar protests in the country, which has been invaded by the Taliban.
The protests against the invasion also occurred in the eastern city of Jalalabad and a district of Paktia province.
After days of fighting with the security forces and capturing territories, Taliban entered Kabul city last Sunday and took control over the Presidential Palace.
President Ashraf Ghani fled the country as the insurgents entered the country.
Scenes of desperation were witnessed at Kabul airport Monday as hundreds of people, who are desperate to leave Afghanistan, clung on to a moving US Air Force C-17 aircraft on the tarmac.
