Kabul/Islamabad: Pakistan National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf has canceled his scheduled visit to Afghanistan after a large number of protesters were expected to turn up at the Kabul airport for an anti-Pakistan demonstration, media reports said.

The episode created a major diplomatic embarrassment in the relationship between the two neighbouring nations.

Afghan nationals in large numbers turned out and were supposed to raise anti pak slogans outside Kabul airport. Sensing massive anti Pakistan sentiments, Moeed Yusuf took a decision against his scheduled visit which was planned at the backdrop of rising tensions between Pak Army and Taliban on the Durand Line, sources said.

A high-level inter-ministerial delegation led by National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf was scheduled to visit Afghanistan on Jan 18-19 for talks on bilateral matters, focusing on Pakistan’s efforts to avert a humanitarian crisis in the neighbouring country, officials told The Dawn on Sunday.
