Islamabad: At least 41 people died when a passenger bus fell into a ravine in Pakistan's  Lasbela area on Sunday morning, media reports said.

Lasbela district is a coastal district of Balochistan.

Lasbela Assistant Commissioner Hamza Anjum, while confirming the incident, told Dawn News that the vehicle, with nearly 48 passengers on board, was travelling from Quetta to Karachi.

“Due to speeding, the coach crashed into the pillar of a bridge while taking a U-turn near Lasbela. The vehicle subsequently careened into a ravine and then caught fire,” he said.

Anjum added that three people, including a child and a woman, have been rescued alive and moved to Civil Hospital, Lasbela.

However, one of the injured persons died later on his way to the hospital.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah expressed grief over the tragedy.

"Deeply grieved by the unfortunate incident in Lasbela which engulfed many lives. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families; may Allah provide them with the courage to endure this loss and bless the souls of the deceased. Ameen," he tweeted.
