SGPC raises concern over killing of Sikh shopkeeper in Pakistan

In the wake of recent tragic incidents targeting Sikhs in Pakistan, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has called upon the External Affairs Minister (MEA), S Jaishankar, to lodge a strong protest against the Pakistan government for its failure to protect minorities.

The appeal emphasizes the need for diplomatic intervention to compel the Pakistan government to take effective measures in safeguarding the lives and properties of Sikhs in the country.

The SGPC has criticized the government’s inability to ensure the safety of minority communities.

Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the SGPC, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of Manmohan Singh, a Sikh shopkeeper who lost his life in an appalling incident.

Manmohan Singh was tragically shot by unidentified gunmen while Tarlok Singh, another grocery store owner, sustained injuries in a separate attack.

These distressing incidents occurred in Peshawar over the past two days. It is disheartening to note that a similar incident resulted in the loss of Dyal Singh’s life in Peshawar on March 31.

Manjit Singh Bhoma, Chairman of the Dharam Prachar Committee Punjab of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, strongly condemned these attacks on Sikh minorities in Pakistan.

He urged the MEA to establish communication with their Pakistani counterparts to address the alarming situation.

Sarchand Singh, Advisor to the National Commission of Minorities, joined the chorus in urging the panel to collaborate with the MEA and request the Pakistan government to prioritize the safety and security of minorities residing within its borders.

The SGPC’s plea for intervention highlights the urgent need for the international community to address the growing concerns about the well-being of Sikhs and other minority groups in Pakistan. It is imperative that concerted efforts are made to protect the rights and lives of all individuals, regardless of their religious or ethnic background.
