In a spate of incidents targeting Hindu community in Sindh, armed motorcycle borne attackers robbed several Hindu businessmen and kidnapped two individuals, including an eight-year-old child, possibly for ransom.

Ransom calls have not yet been received by the individuals’ families.

"While Gobind Ram, a Jacobabad-based cloth merchant, while traveling to Manjhipur for business dealings was robbed of Rs.2010000 and a mobile phone at gunpoint around 150 meters from Dilmurad police station on 05.08.2023 (1600 hrs), armed motorcyclists kidnapped Avinash Bajaj, an oil trader, from his office in Shahdakot, besides looting Rs. 900000 cash he had kept in office on 05.08.2023 (2130 hrs)," sources said.

Separately, in three incidents of targeted robbery at gunpoint, robbers looted Rs. 500000 and 48 grams of gold jewelry from the house of one Satyapal of Thul (Jacobabad, Sindh).

"Rs. 800000, 15 tola gold jewelry and 4 mobile phones were looted from house of Krishan Lal near Hathedar police station after taking them hostage in the interveining night of 5&6.08.2023," sources said.

Akash Kumar, a pharmacy owner, was stopped at Rato Dero Shikarpur Road on Aug 5 and robbed of Rs. 120000 while he was going to make payments to his dealer.

Dr. Lajpat Rai, a renowned medical practitioner of Kandhkot (Sindh) was fired upon and injured by armed motorcyclists who tried to stop his car, early morning on Aug 6 at Badani Bakhshapur Link Road.

When he refused to stop and increased speed, he was fired upon.

Doctor Rai received bullet injuries in back and leg, though he somehow managed to escape and reach the nearest police post.

According to him, the attackers might have wanted to kidnap him as he was not carrying substantial amount during the time of attack.

Reportedly, an eight-year-old, Adesh Kumar, son of businessman Kamal Kumar, was kidnapped by armed motorcyclists from the same area where Dr. Lajpat Rai was fired upon on Aug 6.
