Maldives Parliament witnesses chaos as lawmakers clash during special session
Maldivian Parliament on Sunday witnessed unruly scenes when some lawmakers exchanged blows with each other during a special session convened to seek parliamentary approval for President Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet ministers.
The decision of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and The Democrats' parliamentary group not to approve some members of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet, has lead to the ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives and People’s National Congress (PPM/PNC) coalition affiliated parliamentarians to disrupt parliament proceedings and enter the chambers of the Speaker, reported The Edition.
During the altercation, MP Shaheem was injured when he clashed with Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa.
MP Shaheem had also sustained injuries on his head when the two parliamentarians fell near the chamber during the scuffle, the news portal reported.
Shaheem was later taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to reports, Mathiveri MP Hassan Zareer also sustained serious injuries on his finger.
