Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, who will lead the interim government in the country, is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on Thursday, media reports said.

He will come on an Emirates flight from Dubai, a reliable source told The Daily Star.

In a statement he earlier said: "If we take the path of violence everything will be destroyed. Please stay calm. Help those around you to stay calm.”

"Let us make the best use of our new victory.  Let us not let this slip away because of our mistakes," he said while lauding the students for their bravery.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and BNP chief Khaleda Zia, who is a longtime rival of Sheikh Hasina, urged students and protesting people to set aside thoughts of revenge and unite to rebuild the country.

She also urged everyone to be patient, the party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told The Daily Star.

Zia was released from prison a day after Hasina quit and escaped to India amid violent anti-government protests which left over 100 people dead.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin has resigned from his post on Wednesday, nearly four years after he was appointed to the post by the president on Oct 8, 2020.

"I have sent my resignation letter to the president. I mentioned personal difficulties as the reason for resignation in the letter, " AM Amin Uddin told The Daily Star.

Major General Ziaul Ahsan detained

Major General Ziaul Ahsan, who was relieved from duty just a day after Hasina's ouster, was dramatically detained after the flight on which he was travelling was brought back from the Dhaka airport runway to the boarding bridge.

It was learnt that DGFI members took him back to Dhaka Cantonment, reported The Daily Star.

He had served as the Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre since 2022 before he was relieved of duty.
