Another Hindu priest killed in Bangladesh

Jhenaidah, Jul 1 (IBNS): Barely a month after a Hindu priest was hacked to death in Bangladesh's Jhenaidah district, another was killed in a similar fashion in the same area on Friday morning, reports said.

The deceased, Shyamananda Das, a 50 year old man, served at the Radha Madan Gopal Temple in Uttar Kastasagara village of Sadar upazila. He served there for the last three years.

The assailants were motorcycle-borne and the style of murder had resemblance with the murders committed earlier in several parts of the country in which either the victims were hacked or shot from close range.

Jhenaidah SP Sheikh Altaf Hossain was quoted by bdnews.com as saying, "Shyamananda was picking flowers for puja just outside the temple when three assailants approached him on a motorcycle and hacked him down."

"To make sure he died, they rained multiple blows on his head with sharp weapons," Hossain added.

A similar murder on Jun 7, in which a Hindu priest, a 69-year old Ananda Gopal Ganguly was executed, was committed and owned by IS, US monitoring group SITE reported.

Experts have claimed that the murders of Hindu priests are an intentional move by the fringe group to initiate a Hindu exodus to India and scramble Indo-Bangladesh relations.
