Taliban attacks German consulate in Afghan city, 2 dead

Kabul, Nov 11 (IBNS) A Taliban suicide car bomber attacked the German consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif city in Afghanistan ramming the vehicle with explosives into the building, killing two people and injuring several, said media reports.

"The suicide attacker rammed his explosives-laden car into the wall of the German consulate in the city,"  ocal police chief Sayed Kamal Sadat was quoted saying by German newspaper The Local .

According to Al Jazeera quoting official sources, at least 20 were injured in the attack while other sources put the toll higher.

According to the news channel, Taliban called it a "revenge attack" for a US air strike in  Kunduz earlier this month killing 32 civilians.

Tahir Qadiry, an Afghanistan journalist, tweeted: hour ago: "I am told 50 wounded includng 7 women, 11 kids and rest men at the #German consulate blast in Mazar. 2 dead bodies shifted 2 hospital so far."

"The area close to the #German consulate in #Mazar is cordoned off by the German troops. Helicopters are flying over. #Mazar blast," he tweeted.

Posting the image of an injured girl (below), Qadiry tweeted: "She was amongst those wounded in 2night's blast at the German consulate in #Mazar . What bad has she done that the Taliban took retaliation?"
