US aviation officials probe Air Canada landing in California

California, Oct 25 (IBNS): The Federal Aviation Administration is probing into the incident when an Air Canada plane landed at San Francisco International Airport against the orders of the air traffic controller, media reports said.

FAA spokesperson Ian Gregor told the media that though the Air Canada plane was given an initial clearance to land at San Francisco International Airport, it was later directed by the traffic controller to go around.

The controller had issued the order believing that there was some other plane on the runway.

Gregor said that the crew did not respond to the multiple orders from the traffic controller.

Gregor, in an email interaction with CBC News, said the Air Canada crew, after landing, reported they had faced a radio problem.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick said they are also investigating the incident, reports said.

Fitzpatrick told the media: "After receiving proper clearance to land, it proceeded to do so and landed normally. Upon landing, the crew was informed the tower had attempted unsuccessfully to contact the aircraft; however, the message was not received by the crew."

A similar incident occurred in July when Air Canada came down towards a taxiway instead of the assigned runaway.

The Air Canada pilots came down just 100 feet above the ground and then took over another plane.
