Toronto, Nov 3 (IBNS): Seven pedestrians and one cyclist were struck in separate collisions across Toronto on Friday morning, media reports said.

Eight collisions have taken place in total in the city.

One of the pedestrians, who had struck at the intersection of Steeles Ave. W and Dufferin Street, is suffering from life-threatening injuries.

An investigation was carried out at the spot following which the area had been closed. Later the area was opened.

Another pedestrian was struck at Finch Ave. W. and Albion Rd. in Etobicoke at around 7.30 in the morning.

The number of collisions actually goes up with the fall as the days become shorter and the visibility changes.

Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe told CP24 told the frequency of collisions go up between mid-September and November end.

Stibbe said:"A lot of people are assuming that a driver may see them.”

"Unfortunately some people are dying as a result. You need to make eye contact with each other, communicate, be predictable as a pedestrian, and as a driver — don’t move that vehicle without taking that second look," he added.

In 2017, 1418 people were struck while the number was slightly higher in 2016. In 2016, 1500 people were struck.

Stibbe termed the figure as "nowhere near good enough".

Even Mayor John Tory expressed his frustration and displeasure over the figure.
