Canada's Quebec town bans nudity in pool locker rooms
Montreal, Nov 14 (IBNS): Montreal-area town of Quebec in Canada has banned nudity in the swimming poll locker rooms after receiving several complaints, media reports said.
Brossard, a municipality in Montreal area of Quebec, said in a statement that men and women from now onwards will not be allowed to roam naked in their respective locker rooms and during showers.
The city said they had received numerous complaints regarding nudity in locker rooms and showers, which has been considered as the public spaces.
The penalty for the time being is just the warning.
Brossard presently is using two high school swimming pools with a limited locker space, media reports said.
One of the longtime resident Roland Berard found the new decision by the city "regressive".
Berard said: "I don't agree with having to cover up in the men's locker room when I'm changing and when I'm taking a shower," he said. "I agree to be discreet."
Berard told CTV News that he found absolutely no problem being naked while changing or showering.
"I just thought it was a bit regressive to do that based on -- I don't know how many complaints the city has had -- ... complaints of people having other people's nudity imposed on them" he said.
Eric Leuenberger, aquatic activities director for the City of Brossard clearly stated the move came due to the complaints received against nudity.
"If the measures were reinforced, it's because we got numerous complaints -- from parents who didn't want their kids exposed to nudity and adults who were ill at ease" Leuenberger said.
"It might be a generational question, but we received many." he added.
The director even added that the city has received two complaints against the new rule including one from Berard.
However he stated the city will have to abide by the new rule.
