Canada's pipeline feud: NDP leader Jagmeet Singh stays neutral

India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 17 Feb 2018, 10:20 pm

Victoria/Edmonton, Feb 17 (IBNS): New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has aimed to stay neutral in the entire pipeline feud which involves British Columbia and Alberta, media reports said.

Singh has refused to take any side of either of the NDP premiers of both the provinces.

The new NDP leader has chosen to be a diplomat on the entire feud.

Singh told CBC Radio's The House that both premiers, Notley and Horgan, are doing exactly what they have promised to do.

Weeks ago, B.C. premier Horgan had proposed restrictions on bitumen shipments which flow through the pipeline from Alberta to west coast.

In response, Atlanta premier Notley had withdrawn his province from purchasing hydro and wine from B.C..

Though Notley had reached out to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau seeking resolution to the issue, neither of the premiers discussed the matter with NDP chief Singh.

Singh confirmed to The House, "I haven't spoken to either of them on this issue".
