Washington, Dec 20 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump on Tuesday backed Mitt Romney's bid for the US Senate from Utah.

Trump said Romney will make a 'great Senator'.

Trump said his bid will have his 'full support and endorsement'.

"@MittRomney has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah. He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to @OrrinHatch, and has my full support and endorsement!," Trump tweeted.

Romney was quick in thanking Trump as he posted: " Thank you Mr. President for the support. I hope that over the course of the campaign I also earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah."

On Feb 16, Romney had announced he is going to run for the Senate seat.

It is currently being occupied by GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch.

He earlier this year announced he will retire, media reports said.
