Toronto van attack: Accused man to appear in court today
Toronto, May 10 (IBNS): The accused man in Toronto van attack, which claimed 10 lives, will appear in the court on Thursday, media reports said.
The accused is expected to be charged with three new attempted murder charges, report said.
Alek Minassian (25), the accused, has already been charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder and 13 counts of attempted murder.
The incident left 15 others injured.
"On Monday, April 23, 2018, at about 1:30 p.m., police were called to a collision in the area of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue East. It was reported that a van had mounted the curb and a number of pedestrians had been struck," the Toronto Police had said in a statement following the attack.
Thousands, including Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, banded together today at Mel Lastman Square here in an overwhelming show of support to the vigil organized to pay tribute to the victims of the van attack.
The vigil was organized by the city, along with Faith in the City and Toronto area Interfaith Council.
Speakers represented various religions as they praised the maturity the city had shown in the wake of the horrifying attack in which 10 people lost their lives while 16 were injured. They thanked the first responders, police and medical team who tended to the victims.
