Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders was quoted as saying by Global News that  police are going to take “aggressive action” to complete the investigation.

" Heard about the two children shot near McCowan Road and Steeles Avenue. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families. I will be monitoring the situation closely," he tweeted.

City  Mayor John Tory tweeted: " Today’s shooting is a totally unacceptable act of gun violence. I have spoken to Chief Mark Saunders and he has assured me that Toronto Police are doing everything possible to catch those responsible for this despicable crime."

" I want to make it clear that I want no stone left unturned in dealing with this. I cannot imagine the anguish the family and friends of the two girls shot while playing in a park are experiencing tonight," he said.

" This entire city wants these girls to make a full recovery and this entire city wants justice for them. I know the police will do all they can to arrest the cowards responsible for hurting these girls," he said.

Tory said: " We will work with police to do everything we can to bring swift justice to all those who threaten our city’s safety with gun violence and to help this neighbourhood and all neighbourhoods hurt by violence."

He said: " I encourage anyone with information about this shooting, including video evidence, to help police solve this heinous crime."
